"The Gift of the Magi" Irony Paragraph

In "The Gift of the Magi," O. Henry uses irony to make the story realistic. For example, Jim sold his watch to buy Della combs for her beautiful long hair. This is ironic because Della sold her hair so she could get him a silver watch chainThis is also ironic Because Della cut her hair short, so now she has no hair for the combsIn addition, Della sold her hair so she could buy Jim a silver watch chain for his pocketwatch. This is ironic because Jim sold his watch so he could get Della combs for her long hair. This is also ironic because now Jim has no watch for the chain. In conclusion, gift giving can be good but sometimes things do not work out as planned.
