JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 33 - American Students

Are Ameican students falling behind compared to students from other countries?
American students are falling behind compared to students from other countries. For example, the DATA  is showning that American teenagers are dropping out of school. Drop outs have a higher chance of not getting a job, when they become adults. In adittion, most schools don't have classes for gifted students. The classes given depend on what grade your in which doesn't give a challenge if you learning something that you may already know. Due to the fact that everybody has a different learning RANGE. Also, COMPARED to other countries, our country doesn't get as much time in school. Other schools in other countries have a longer times for school. In conclusion, schools need to find a better way to educate teens that want to be successful.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 31 - Vandalism

Should parents be held accountable for their child's damage?

No, parents should not be accountable for their childs damage, the child should be responsible for what they have done. For an exaple, if there is a specfic damage that is not that bad the student should take care of it and pay for it because they are the reason that it got ruined. Also if it gets out of hand and it keeps on happening the court could start computing things for the kids to do so that they will not get into bigger trouble. By doing this students can Achieve there goals they have been and stop doing bad things such as vandalism. The students need to learn responsibility and pay for what they damaged, instead of the parents paying for, and the students getting away with it.

Schools should not eliminate the D grade. For example, It can be hard for students to INTERACT with their peers, with F's because they may not be able to participate in sports or dances, because they may not meet the GPA requirements. In addition, The INITIAL shock to parents and students could be bad if the D grade is eliminated, I had a D and the reaction from my family was not as bad as if I would have had an F.Also, Teachers would need to work summer school,to help the students to not fail and the school district and state would need to COMPENSATE for the time the teachers took during their time off.In conclusion, the D grade should not be eliminated.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 29 - School Conferences

Should parents face jail time for missing their child's school conferences?

Parents should not have to face jail time if they miss their child's school conference. One reason is because not all parents have the RESOURCES to get to their child's school. In addition parents have the oppourtunity to SEEK teachers in other ways than through a conference such as email, or telephone calls. Lastly, some students are TRANSFERRED to far away schools and that makes it more difficult for parents to attend. Overall, parents should not have to face jail time if they miss their child's school conference due to busy schedules.

Do school officials have the right to use drug-sniffing dogs?

I believe that school officials do have the right to use drug-sniffing dogs. For example, ,“ Many students ASSUME that their lockers are private property, but most school policies state that lockers belong to the school and therefore anything in them is subject to a search.” Although in reality they are the schools prperty, that they check out to you like teachers do with textbooks. In addition, “Many schools have RESPONDED to the use of drugs on campus by using drug-sniffing dogs to search lockers.” this would create a safer school enviroment because when people use drugs there emotions and actions change. Also, “Supporters of the drug-sniffing dogs say that the PROCESS protects innocent students.” It protects innocent students because some one could be found with but it may not be theres, someone could have planted it on them, by searching lockers students think, it is safe although it is not, so they will stash it in there locker. In conclusion,School officials should have the right to use drug-sniffing dogs.
